Out on the Town
Boogiefish renters receive free video/DVD rentals at Village Video on Buxton Back Road. Go to Route 12, turn left, turn left on Buxton Back Road, and Village Video is on the left immediately following the Buxton Recycling Center.
Within walking distance, Buxton offers two mini-golf courses, several clothing shops, sandwich shops and bait/tackle shops.
Swimming and tennis: BoogieFish guests may use the Hatteras Realty swimming pool, tennis courts, playground, and golf putting area eight miles north in Avon. It's a great place to hang out if you arrive early or leave late. Children and teens love the pool. There are special programs for children in the summer.
Food shopping: Avon Fish Market has fresh fish at reasonable prices. Go north to Avon, left at the second traffic light, stay on that road bearing left to the docks. The market is the second building on the right. Get there before 10:00 a.m. Conners Food Market is two miles south on Route 12 in Buxton and there is a Food Lion six miles north in Avon. Island Spice & Wine in Avon has a good selection of wines and cheeses.
Bait and Tackle: In Buxton, we like Red Drum Tackle and Dillons Corner (both just up the street).
Bars and Restaurants: The owner's favorites are:
- Pop's Raw Bar in Buxton for beer, shrimp, oysters, clams and friendly locals.
- Dinky's restaurant in Teachs Lair Marina for the food.
- The Mad Crabber restaurant in Avon for the food, great staff, live music.
- Sand Bar Grille in Buxton for the live music.
- Quarterdeck restaurant in Frisco for family dining, local food.
Surfing: For surf boards and surfing supplies, we recommend Natural Arts Surf Shop in Avon. They sell and rent surf boards and boogie boards.
Kiteboarding: There are many kiting spots in the area. Visit Real Kiteboarding in Buxton for a map. Kite Point is a few miles north. Look out of the Boogiefish kitchen window and you can sometimes see the kites flying at Kite Point.
Windsurfing: Canadian Hole windsurfing mecca is a few miles north. Windsurfing Hatteras is a good place for lessons and equipment, in Avon. Fox Watersports in Buxton has equipment for rent and sale.
Fishing: In front of the house...by the jetties a short walk south on the beach...Cape Point...Hatteras inlet...Oregon inlet...near the Frisco pier...great fishing everywhere.
